5 Healthy and Low-Calorie Cocktails for the Diet-Conscious
How’s your diet resolution this year? Have you crossed out anything yet on your list?
According to a Huffington Post report, the number of Americans on a diet this year has hit at an all-time low. It’s certainly not good news if you ask us. But there’s hope, if you’re still one of those who haven’t given up on your diet resolution early this year. So we’d like you to hit the bar for doing a great job with us! Here are five healthy cocktails that you can try this year at happy hour without compromising your diet:
1. Michelada
Michelada is a beer-cocktail that is filled with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. A popular hair of the dog, the Michelada is made with lager, lime juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, salt and black pepper. The recipe may sound loaded with calories but the cocktail has only well over 100 calories. Bon Appetit has an excellent recipe for michelada if you want to make one at home. Now if you want to know more about how healthy this cocktail is, Gizmodo breaks it down for you.
2. Pomegranate Champagne Punch
A serving of Eating Well’s Pomegranate Champagne Punch has 128 calories. The recipe is quite simple, zesty and is perfect for dinner parties or game nights—but make sure not to forget about portion control.
3. Mojitos (syrup substituted with honey)
Mojitos is a light and refreshing Cuban cocktail that could really pack up the calories (up to 250 calories, according to Health.com). But fret not because through substitution (you can substitute syrup or sugar with honey), you can always bring down its calorie count to a hundred and fifty. Check out Health.com’s version.
4. Classic Martini
Don’t want to pile up the pounds? Enjoy the martini ala Mad Men and you got your problem solved. Use authentic vermouth because it’s made of real herbs, healthy, not to mention, classy. Keep away from the cheese-stuffed olives though, advised Perrie Samotin of Yahoo Shine. (Olives by the way are quite fatty—the good kind of fats though. But if you’re strict about counting the calories, you may want to take it easy with the olives.)
5. Bloody Mary.
This list won’t be a list without the bloody mary. I’m sure, just like any of the cocktails on this list, the Bloody Mary isn’t for everyone—it’s base ingredient is tomato juice; it has to be boring. We beg to differ though—because it’s not, especially when paired with light cheese and nuts, or drank as a perfect beginning to brunch. Fit Sugar offers a few tricks on how to make the bloody mary even healthier and lighter.
